I have an old PC I want to turn into a network storage device.
The reason I want to do this is because I have lots of hds, both external and internal. On my OSX laptop my USB ports start to complain (overheat) if I plug too many devices in and this has let to lots of data loss.
Can I keep all my data together in a NAS, but still have Mac able to access everything like iTunes library . Time Machine Backups etc..?

It has 2 floors, each floor has 5 computers. I plan to use subnetting to separate the network of the 2 floors. Router, switch or hub? And could you please tell me why you chose what you chose? It is a small advertising firm… thanks
Is data transmitted over cable modulated at all? Am I right in saying cable modem is not a true modem as data is sent along coaxial TV cable more or less like unaltered digital data sent over an extended network (and that’s why cable modem plugs into a network card). There is no modulation and demodulation process like conventional modem using PPP on plain old telephone system.
12 people will need to be connected to a network of an old house. The cable installation will be difficult. What type of network devices should I use? Maybe just a wireless router?
Thanks guys, I’ll give it a shot
